Try It For a Day

Try It For a Day

Have you ever wanted to volunteer at a soup kitchen but you’re not sure if it’s right for you?  We can schedule you to come into the the Mary Brennan INN location and try it for the day! The main shift where we serve our meal is Monday through Friday from 8:30AM – 2:00PM. All volunteers during this shift must be at least 16 years old. You will join the rest of that day’s volunteers. The Mary Brennan INN needs 20-25 volunteers daily to help the soup kitchen operate, so your participation is greatly appreciated.

Volunteers must be flexible and ready to work in any capacity needed. They may participate in the following tasks:

  1. Assist in preparing and serving the day’s meal.
  2. Sorting through donations of food or clothing or stocking the pantry. (Must be able to lift up to 25 lbs)
  3. Clearing and cleaning tables when guests are finished with their meal.
  4. Greeting guests at the door or signing guests up to take showers.
  5. Accepting donations.

Volunteer days must be scheduled at least a week in advance. You should arrive in comfortable clothing…casual shirt, long pants, comfortable shoes/sneakers (no open-toe shoes or flip flops are permitted) and wear or bring a baseball cap. Volunteers are expected to bring their own lunch or a snack to have during the break/volunteer meeting at 11:00AM. Oh, and don’t forget to bring your warm smile to help brighten the day for those we serve.

Try it for a day…help The INN and help give back to the community at the same time.  If you really enjoy it, please think about becoming one of our regular volunteers.  It’s worth it!
