Church Garden Brings INN Fresh Veggies

The 2017 GCCC garden season has officially begun! For the last seven years, members of this congregation have donated thousands of pounds of fresh vegetables and produce to serve guests of The INN. Each year, an impressive bounty of tomatoes, peppers, zucchini, squash, cucumbers, pickles, string beans, cucuzzi, herbs, strawberries, lettuce and cabbage is delivered to the Mary Brennan INN soup kitchen for guests who often don’t have access to fresh and organic vegetables. Members of the church donate everything that grows in the garden (except for what the birds and bunnies eat), and many also donate from their own personal gardens. Some members also buy fresh produce for donation if they do not have their own gardens at home. Mico Faella, a parishioner of the church said, “We are very blessed to be able to support The INN in this special and personal way. The entire congregation is very supportive and it is also a really visual part of our efforts, as the garden is active for this effort from March through November. Last year’s ‘haul’ surpassed 1,000 pounds of donated produce and our goal for this year is 1,200 pounds!”
