In Spring 2025, The INN broke ground on a major renovation project at 88-92 Madison Avenue, which has most recently been the home for a donation drop-off hub, The INN’s free clothing and housewares boutique and sorting, prep and staging area for distributions of pantry bags, backpacks, holiday toys and other items. The goal is to further expand The INN’s existing services, add new resources for guests in need, and develop the future of our Madison Avenue “Campus.”
The space is over 23,000 square feet, almost doubling the amount of space of the existing soup kitchen and resource center. With three buildings totaling nearly 50,000 square feet of space all next door to each other on Madison Avenue, The INN will become a full-service campus of services to those in need in our communities.
The construction project will allow the new building to become a custom-built space for The INN’s current and expanded services to guests. It will be a new, permanent home for the Center for Transformative Change or “CTC,” which serves as the first stop for guests in need and provides a host of social services, everything from obtaining ID cards to assisting guests in receiving government benefits, help with finding jobs, housing, and crisis shelter.
A brand-new free clothing and housewares boutique will also be housed in the new building, giving guests the opportunity to receive every day, seasonal clothing items, as well as business and occasional attire and all the items so generously donated by INN supporters.
A children’s clothing department area has already been sponsored by a generous donor, and other naming and sponsorship opportunities will be available.
The plan also includes a large warehouse space for donation collections, a Guest Choice Pantry for food distribution, sleeping pods, laundry access, and a Medical and Mental Health suite.
Workforce Development services, Computer, Literacy and ESL Classes will all be offered by CTC staff, visiting organizations and supporters.
An official grand opening date has not been set yet. Click through the photo gallery below to see the progress!
“As The INN looks towards the future, we recognize the enormous amount of support that has been given to us to do this work for the last 42 years. Without YOU, we could not have served millions of meals, given thousands of people warm beds to sleep in at night, or helped them out of what is often an endless cycle of poverty. We are dedicated to continuing to uphold our mission to serve hungry and homeless Long Islanders with dignity, respect and love and we hope that you find it in your hearts to continue to stand beside us through the next phase in the evolution of The INN as we Move Forward Together.”
