Girl Scouts have a rich history with The INN. Many troops have been INNvolved in community service through the Girl Scouts.
We encourage troops to continue this tradition. See below for ways that your troop can Get INNvolved!
Pursue your Bronze, Silver or Gold Award at The INN
There are lots of opportunities to complete your Girl Scout awards by doing a project that benefits guests of The INN. See below for some ideas, and contact an INN representative if you are interested in pursuing an upcoming award by completing a project for our soup kitchen or one of our shelters. To get started, contact Dana Lopez at email@example.com
Volunteer in the Soup Kitchen
Girls ages 10 and up have the opportunity to come into the Mary Brennan INN soup kitchen to volunteer. Please be aware that anyone under 10 is not permitted to volunteer and only those ages 16 & up can volunteer during meal serving times. All individuals and groups must register online to schedule a volunteer date. Click here to access the registration form.
Hold a Collection Drive
We accept many different types of donations of goods in the soup kitchen, including, but not limited to food, clothing, toiletries, baby items and metrocards. We encourage donors to drop off their items at our soup kitchen in Hempstead.
Click here for lists of our current needs and information about drop-off times and location.
Schedule a “Give Back” Activity
Some activities that are fun to organize during troop meetings include assembling snack bags or shower kits, rolling utensils for hot meals or creating moving night or birthday boxes for shelter guests. Be creative and make it a fun group activity!
Join the Youth Advisory Board
High School students (and middle schoolers with supervision) are encouraged to join the Youth Advisory Board and attend monthly meetings in the soup kitchen to participate in volunteer activities and earn community service credit.
